Pauly Valsan is an Indian film and stage actress who specializes in Malayalam regional cinema. She is best recognized for portraying Mariam Thressia (Pennamma) in the 2018 Malayalam blockbuster Ee. Ma. Yau, for which she received the Best Character Actress award at the 48th Kerala State Film Awards. The film won the best director and actor prizes at the 49th International Film Festival of India, which was held in Goa. Pauly was born and reared in Vypin, Kerala, along with her six siblings. She is one of the eldest members of her family and has two children from Valsan, a stage actor who married against his parents’ wishes because they were from different castes. She married Valsan against his family’s objections since they were from separate castes but his relatives eventually accepted them.

From the 1970s, she began her career acting in theatre and stage plays. It was not until three decades later, in 2008, that Anwar Rasheed’s “Annan Thambi” (2008) saw Pauly’s debut on screen. Since then, she has performed in over forty films in ten years. After performing for her second film Beautiful at night in Kalamassery and traveling 125 kilometers to perform on stage at Adoor, it happened that she had to shoot for the movie during the day at Kalamassery and then travel 125 kilometers back home.
