Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel – The Iron Man of India is one and only Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel aka Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. He is considered one of the most important faces of India’s freedom movement. He worked as the First Deputy Prime Minister of India from 1947 to 1950 & Sardarji was an Indian barrister and a senior leader of the Indian National Congress. He played a leading role in the independence of India. He was Home Minister during the political integration of India and the Indo-Pakistani War of 1947. He was a famous lawyer in India. He was appointed as the 49th President of the Indian National Congress, & he organized the party for elections in 1934 and 1937, promoting the Quit India Movement. As the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of India, Patel organized relief efforts for partitioning refugees fleeing to Punjab and Delhi from Pakistan and worked to maintain peace. Sardarji is remembered as “the patron saint of India’s civil servants” for having established the modern All India Services system. He is also called the “Unifier of India”. On 31 October 2018, an effigy was built in his memory in Gujarat which is popularly known as the Statue of Unity and is 182 meters tall.
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Biography
He was born on 31 October 1875 (the date of birth was never officially recorded but he entered it as 31 October on his matriculation examination papers) in Nadiad, Gujarat. He is one of the six children of his father Jhaverbhai Patel and mother Ladba. He himself, though, harbored a plan to study & become a lawyer, work and save funds, travel to England, and become a barrister, he spent years & away from his family & studying for becoming lawyers, he passed his examinations within two years only. He got married to Jhaverba. In 1903 the couple had a daughter named Maniben, and a son name Dahyabhai, 1905. Sardarji died on 15 December 1950 at Birla House in Bombay due to a massive heart attack.
