In 2005, while she was traveling to Chennai from Calicut, she met Arvind, who worked as a flight crew for the Indian Airlines. They have one daughter named Naina.

She began her acting career in 2001, appearing as Gayathri/Basanthi in the Malayalam comedy Ee Parakkum Thalika. Following the investigative thriller Nariman by K. Madhu, she won the Asianet Film Awards’ Best New Female Face of the Year. She made a cameo appearance in Kunjikoonan by Sasi Shanker in 2002. In the film, Kanmashi, Nithya portrayed the female lead as Kanmashi with Vineeth Kumar. In 2003, she played Devaki in Balettan, which became a major hit. This was a box office success story. She made two films in 2004: Choonda and Varum Varunnu Vannu.

In 2004, Nithya appeared in the Tamil films Freedom and Maratha Naadu. She played Gopinathan’s lover in the Malayalam film, Kathavasheshan. In 2005, she starred in Kalyana Kurimanam, Cholliyattam, and Kalyana Kurimanam. Later that year, she was featured as Sathya in Manathodu Mazhaikalam (a Tamil drama). She played the role of Siva’s (played by Shaam) excellent friend in the 2007 Tamil film Nagaram and the horror movie Soorya Kireedam.
