Dinesh Prabhakar, also known as Dinesh Nair, is a Malayalam actor who has worked as a technician on films in other languages. He was born in Perumbavoor, Ernakulam, Kerala, India. From an early age, he was interested in performing arts and would watch movies on Doordarshan Channel and at movie theaters around his area. He studied at Sree Sankara College and Jayakeralam School. In 1990, he saw a Mohanlal film Aryan, which motivated him to leave college and move to Mumbai in order to pursue an acting career. To make ends meet, he worked as a newspaper reporter and courier deliveryman in Mumbai.

He made his debut as an actor in stage presentations and theatre in Hindi, English, and Marathi plays over a period of many years. He was later drawn to the world of advertising after becoming interested in it. In fact, he launched an ad agency as a result of his desire to practice it. He was first seen in the Tamil film Nammal Thulasi as an extra, before being cast as a lead character in Meesa Madhavan, his big-screen debut. Offers began to flow in after Meesa Madhavan, and he took on a few of them. However, they were minor parts rather than a complete roles.
