Bhagyalakshmi has acted in about 18 Malayalam movies and worked as a voice artist in over 2000 Malayalam films. She is recognized for her dubbing work, especially since she has mostly dubbed for Shobhana, one of the most well-known and renowned film actresses from Kerala. She is also known as Bhagyam. Bhagyalakshmi was born on November 1, 1962, to Kumaran Nair and Bhargavi Amma, who were both from Powaat Tharavadu Calicut and Kurupath Tharavadai Shoranur in Kerala, India. She is the youngest of three siblings; Indira Nair and Unni Nair are her older sister and brother. After completing her PUC degree (Pre-University Course) in Calicut, Bhagyalakshmi went on to pursue a glittering career in Malayalam cinema. Bhagyalakshmi lost both of her parents when she was quite young. At the age of 10, she began working as a voice actress. She also acted in Malayalam films.

She has been working in the Malayalam film industry for over 35 years and is the record holder for most awards won by a dubbing artiste for the largest number of times in Malayalam movie history. In 1991, 2002, 1995, and 2012, Kerala State Film Awards were given to Kayam, Ormayundayirikkanam, and many other films. Bhagyalakshmi married K. Ramesh Kumar in October 1985 and they have two sons, one studying engineering at Bangalore and the other doing it at Chennai. The pair later divorced.
