Willingham is a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. He likes competing in triathlons. In 1999, he graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and went to Texas Christian University afterward. He eventually relocated to Los Angeles in the early 2000s to pursue an acting career.

He is also well-known as the voice of Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist, which he reprised in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. His most renowned credits include Yu Kanda in D.Gray-man, Cleo in Glass Fleet, and Ginko in Mushishi, Portgas D. Ace in One Piece in the Funimation re-dub of One Piece and Takashi Morinozuka in Ouran High School Host Club. He also voices Thor in several Marvel films and King Roland II in Disney Junior’s Sofia the First. He has been the voice of Knuckles the Echidna in the Sonic the Hedgehog series since 2010.

The show was both a Finalist and the Audience Honor Winner at the 2019 Shorty Awards, taking home the Webby Award for “Games (Video Series & Channels)” in addition to being named both a Finalist and an Audience Choice winner. After building a huge following, the Critical Role cast left Geek & Sundry and formed their own production company, Critical Role Productions; Willingham is now the company’s CEO.
