Manoj Kumar is an Indian film director, producer, and television actor who has worked in Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. Bharathiraja is his brother-in-law. He’s become well known for playing the patriotic hero in a variety of films. He made his directorial debut with Manukkul Vairam (1986), which he had assisted Bharathiraja in. He has directed a number of films throughout the 1990s, including Guru Paarvai (1998), starring Prakash Raj, which received favorable reviews.

Manoj Kumar grew up in Delhi and is of Hindu heritage. His mother, Kamala Kishanchand Khanna, was from Jammu & Kashmir and worked as a school teacher. He received his undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the College of Engineering Trivandrum. Sumant was married to Bharathiraja’s sister Sumitra, and he had two sons named Sumit (a director) and Vikas (an actor). His son-in-law is Sharat Kumar.
