Manavalan Joseph is a well-known Malayalam film actor who has acted in over 100 movies. He was born and began his career during the 1950s in Fort Kochi. He married Thresia and they have six children. On January 23, 1986, Manavalan died of a heart attack while dubbing for IV Sasi’s Vartha in Chennai during the filming of Neelakuyil, which became India’s first national award-winning feature film. The movie won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Malayalam and was the country’s first big success as a narrative picture.

He would go on to appear in several movies until the early 1980s. He played a variety of character, supporting, and comedic parts in a number of films. Manavalan has made an enormous contribution to Malayalam cinema and has delivered his performances naturally and with ease. In 1961, he played Kunchacko’s Unniyaarcha opposite Ragini Krishnamurthy, Hari Nair, Sathyan, and Thikkurissi Sukumaran Nair. After a year, the same cast reunited for the blockbuster hit film Bharya, which was based on Kanam EJ’s book of the same name. Kunchacko directed the movie as well. Manavalan debuted in P. Bhaskaran’s Mooladhanam, playing a police constable, in 1969.
