Lara Christine Von Seelen, often referred to as Lara Spencer (born June 19, 1969), is an American television personality. She is most recognized for being the co-anchor of ABC’s Good Morning America. She is also a contributor for Nightline and ABC News. From 2004 to 2011, she was the host of The Insider, a syndicated entertainment news program.

She has worked as a lifestyle reporter for WABC-TV since then. In 2004 and 2005, she hosted the second edition of the long-running program on PBS. She’s currently hosting Flea Market Flip on both HGTV and Great American Country. She stated in April 2018 that she’d be appearing on GMA only three days a week to focus on her television production work.

Spencer was born in Garden City, Long Island, the daughter of Richard Ernest and Carolyn von Seelen. She completed her high school education at Garden City High School in 1987.

  • She attended Pennsylvania State University on a sports scholarship for springboard and platform diving, where she was a nationally ranked competitive diver. In her final year, she was named an All American Athlete in 1991, when she earned a degree in broadcast journalism.
  • After college, Spencer entered the NBC page program, where she would volunteer to assist other journalists in order to gain experience. From there, she was hired as a reporter at WDEF-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she “was literally a one-man band,” handling reporting duties as well as production and editing.She began as a reporter at ABC2 WNYW.
