Karunakaran is an Indian movie actor and screenwriter who has worked in the Tamil film industry. He has played a variety of characters in his career. In 2012, he made his cinematic debut with Kalakalappu as Kumar. He is known for Soodhu Kavvum (which was released in 2013), which starred him. Other projects credited to him include Jigarthanda and Yaamirukka Bayamey, both of which were filmed in New Delhi, India. His father was a RAW agent who worked for the Indian spy agency. He grew up in Trichy with his family, who had moved there from Delhi. He met Nalan Kumarasamy, a buddy who is also a short filmmaker while residing in Delhi. He went to Sri Akilandeswari Vidyalaya Tiruchirappalli for his education. In chemical engineering, he completed his graduation at Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology& Research Academy (SASTRA) University.

After the research was completed, he accepted a position at Accenture and worked as an IT specialist. His buddy Nalan asked him to act in his short film Naalaya Iyakkunar for a television show. He had previously done roles in school projects before Nalan approached him. He played the part in Naalaya Iyakkunar and it placed first on that season’s episode. In 2012, he appeared in Sundar C’s films doing minor parts. It was his big break that year with the releases of Pizza, where he starred as Vijay Sethupathi’s friend.
