- During the filming of Ashanti, he got engaged to Bollywood actress Zeenat Aman. However, Zeenat and Kanwaljeet split up later on, after which Zeenat married Bollywood actor, director, and producer Mazhar Khan. He made his Bollywood film debut in Shankar Hussain (1977), and he appeared on television with Buniyaad (1986–1987). He has acted in over 37 feature films, as well as 21 TV episodes.
- He has two more flops on his record. Hum Rahe Na Hum and Shaque, which he invested a lot of money in, did not perform well at the box office. He was labeled a failure and introduced to television around this time (at that point, it wasn’t very popular).
- Ramesh Sippy’s mega-series Buniyaad gave him instant fame as Satbir, an illegitimate child. This attracted a lot of offers, but he turned down everything that came his way.
- On the other hand, he has always preferred to wait and do less spectacular but more meaningful parts. In recent years, he was offered roles of his choosing, which led to serials like as Saans, Family No. 1, and Dard and Siski.
