Jisshu Sengupta is an Indian actor, producer, television presenter, and anchor who has appeared in Bengali, Telugu, and Hindi films.He made his debut in a Bengali TV series, Mahaprabhu, in which he played the part of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu; the character earned him considerable acclaim.

He was born on March 15, 1977 (age 44), in Calcutta (now Kolkata), West Bengal, India, to Ujjwal Sengupta, also a Bengali film actor. In 2004, he married Anjana Bhowmick’s younger daughter, Nilanjana Sharma. He has two daughters, Sara and Zara.

Sengupta began his acting career with a teleserial, titled Mahaprabhu, which aired on Doordarshan. He was praised for his portrayal of the younger Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in the series. After his recurring role in the series, he made his silver screen debut with Priyojon, directed by Dinen Sengupta, which was a commercial and critical failure. He appeared in Sukanta Roy’s ambitious production Chelebela, which also featured Debashree Roy as Kadambari Devi, in 2002.
He made his cinematic debut through Moner Majhe Tumi, in which he played a parallel lead, which was Bangladesh’s top-grossing film of 2003. He continued to work in commercial films, including Abhimanyu, Kurukshetra, Mahaguru, Sangram, Sajani, Guru Janmadata Chore Chore Mastuto Bhai and Premi with little success.
He made his Bollywood debut in Shyam Benegal’s biographical war film Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose: The Forgotten Hero.
Sengupta reappeared in Bollywood with a cameo appearance in Anurag Basu’s Barfi! After making a successful comeback to the Hindi film industry, she returned to the spotlight. Sengupta received positive reviews for her work in Srijit Mukherji’s musical drama film Jaatishwar, which starred Prosenjit Chatterjee and Swastika Mukherjee.
In 2016, he starred in the sequel to Byomkesh Bakshi and Zulfiqar, one being a commercially and critically successful venture, whereas the other was only a financially successful venture, but his performance was praised by critics. He was given the Best Actor award for his performance in Abar Aranye at the 12th Kalakar Awards in 2004.
He was then asked to join Mahesh Bhatt’s Sadak 2, in which he played Alia Bhatt’s father and is due to premiere on Disney+Hotstar in August 2020. In the horror thriller Durgamati, released in December 2020, Sengupta portrayed ACP Abhay Singh.
