Jaya Prada is a well-known actress who has appeared in movies in all South Indian languages, as well as Bollywood. She began her career as a trained classical dancer and her dancing talents helped her get into Telugu films. She made her Bollywood movie debut with Sargam, a remake of her Telugu film Siri Siri Muvva. Though she made a few more Hindi films after that, her career took off when she played Prakash Mehra’s blockbuster hit Sharaabi in the year 1984. She then went on to make a name for herself in Bollywood, where she is perhaps best known for her roles as Durga (For Queen and Country) opposite Naseeruddin Shah, Piaa Baksi (Oryon), Geetu Mohandas, Chintu Mamgain, and the list goes on. She has also made a name for herself as a prominent political figure. She joined the TDP in 1994 and became a politician shortly after. At the request of Amar Singh, she left the TDP and joined the Samajwadi Party following an argument with Chandrababu Naidu. During the 2004 general election, she was elected to Parliament from the Rampur constituency as a member of the Samajwadi Party. She won her seat in the 2009 elections as well. She was kicked out of the party with Amar Singh and went on to join RLD in 2014 after a conflict with Azam Khan. In 2014, she ran for Parliament from Bijnor but lost by a little margin. She joined the BJP one month before the 2019 general election.
