G M Kumar began his film director career in the year 1986 with the Sivaji Productions production Aruvadai Naal. Despite the fact that his film was a success, he received many more offers, but his disputes with producers over having IIaiyaraaja as a composer caused his market value to plummet significantly below what it would have been. G M Kumar began acting in films at the age of 36. His first two significant features were Captain Magal, which was made by Bharathiraja and Ramachandra in 1993 and 2003, respectively. He played the part of a malefactor in Captain Magal. It was notable that his film directing talents brought him to bankruptcy at some point. When he directed the Tamil horror film Uruvam in 1991, he was also the co-producer. He went to study Anthropology after that. He is starred in November Story now.
He once again found himself on the verge of bankruptcy in early 2003, and so he began his acting career. He was a great actor who won many awards for his performance in Veyil in 2006 when he was just taking because of his unstable financial situation.
