Priya was a well-known Telugu comedian and political satirist, known for his political satire in print, including “Running Commentary” in the Telugu newspaper Udayam. Soon after, he went on to offer the same analysis on local Telugu television stations. He was also well-known for his controversial cartoons. He had previously worked as a journalist for more than seven years, during which he authored several editorials for various publications. Several of his newspaper essays were compiled in Adhyakshaa Mannichandi (English: Pardon me, President). According to The Hindu, the book is one of the most popular volumes in vernacular language literature. He worked as a journalist for Telugu dailies Udayam, Andhra Prabha, and Hyderabad Mirror, and The Hans India.

He was also known for his excellent balance of ‘direct and ornamental’ verse in his poetry. For his work, he drew on Indian mythology, including epics. He was a renowned poet from the Kannada language who wrote songs about poverty. He is perhaps best known for his poem, Gareebi Geetaalu (English: Songs of Poverty). His works included Amma Chettu Chepa Chiluka (English: Mother, Tree, Fish, and Parrot) and Garber. He went on to write lyrics for Telugu films, including the song “Jambal Bhari Bhari” for Maa Bhoomi (English: Our Land) and other movies such as Raguluthunna Bharatham (English: Raging India) and Pallaki (Tamil). However, his versatile use of themes throughout his works has him likened to classic Telugu writer and poet Sri Sri.
