Yechan Gunja Mahendran, also known as Y G Mahendran, was born on January 9, 1950, in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India as Y G. Mahendra. He is a well-known actor and dramatist who has acted in many TV series and films. Her mother Rajalakshmi Parthsarathy founded the Padma Seshadri Bala Bhavan, a collection of schools where she serves as dean in Chennai, and his father Parthasarathy was a pioneer of Tamil drama new to the industry (Padma Seshadri Bala Bhawan). Vyjayanthimala is his cousin.

The United Amateur Artists (UAA) was founded by Y G Mahendra’s father. It is a drama company formed in Madras City in 1952 that may be one of the first. He rose to prominence and became a leading dramatist at his time due to the popularity and success of the organization.

In 1971, Y G Mahendra was featured in the K Balachander film Navagraham, which was a success. His distinctive nasal accent became popular once the film became a modest box-office success. He was also seen in supporting roles in films with well-known actors such as Jaishankar, Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, and a number of other individuals.
