Uma Riyaz Khan is an Indian actress who has appeared in Tamil television series and smaller roles in several Tamil films. Uma’s debut was the Hindi film Muskurahat (1992) directed by Priyadarshan. She played Amrish Puri’s daughter in the film. Her first film, she says, was a ‘tremendous’ experience.

Uma was the only child of her parents, both being artists. Her father, Kamesh, was a music director and her mother, Kamala Kamesh, was an actress who is highly regarded in the business. She was orphaned at the age of nine after losing her father. In 1992, she married Malayalam actor Riyaz Khan. They have two sons: Shariq Hassan and Shamshad Hassan.

Khan was educated at Fatima Convent School in Kodambakkam. She was a state-level sprinter, Javelin thrower, and professional dancer. She was a trained classical dancer who later adopted salsa and other Latin American dance styles.

•  She considers her role in the film Anbe Sivam to be her greatest achievement. She received a lot of praise for her performance in Mouna Guru, including several awards that year.
• She appeared in the second season of Jodi Number One, a much-talked-about the show that aired on Vijay TV in 2007. She later judged a program called Kalakka Povathu Yaaru. Uma Riyaz Khan is well-known for Anbe Sivam (2003), Mouna Guru (2011), Biriyani (2013) and Thoongaavanam (2015). Her magnum opus, she terms her work in the film Anbe Sivam, was completed in 2002.
