Sona was born in Kozhikode, Kerala on June 26th, 1975. She began acting at the school level before making her debut in the feature film. Sona won the ‘Kaveri Film Critics’ Best Actress award for the telefilm ‘Rachiyamma,’ which was aired on DD Malayalam. Sona has worked in numerous devotional soap operas with the name ‘Velankanni Mathavu,’ ‘Ramayanam,’ and ‘Devimahatmyam.’ Her most notable performance was as Pramila in the Asianet serial ‘Ente Manasaputri.’ In this serial, Sona’s performance flawlessly resolved the problem of a mother with two children and their conflict. For Amrita TV’s series ‘Samasya,’ she won the Sathyan Memorial Award for best TV actress.

Sona Nair began her career as an actress in Bollywood in the film ‘Kesari’ (1993). Apart from Malayalam, she also acted in Hindi films. Sona’s first role in a Hindi film was Priyadarshan’s ‘Malamaal Weekly.’ In the movie, her part role was well appreciated by regional audiences. Sona married renowned cinematographer Udayan Ambadi in 1996, after co-starring with him in The Waiting Room and Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal.
