Ravi Vallathol is a film and television actor who was born in 1952 in Kerala’s Malappuram district, the nephew of renowned Mahakavi Vallathol Narayana Menon. His father T. N Gopinathan Nair was a well-known author and wrote many plays for the stage. Ravi began acting in plays at school age, as he had done with Jagathy Sreekumar, the well-known Malayalam actor.

It was his first writing job, which was later turned into a film by Sathyan Anthickad. After that, when Doordarshan began operations in Trivandrum, he had many chances to appear in television serials and this changed his life forever. He made his debut as a tailor in the serial Vaitharani written by his father T.N Gopinathan himself. He subsequently appeared in numerous serials back-to-back, with all of the characters he played being well-liked by the Malayalam audience. Till now, he has more than 100 Malayalam series under his belt.

In 1987, he became an actor for the first time when he appeared in Lenin Rajendran’s Swathi Thirunal. He subsequently acted in a number of films including Oru Sayahnathinte Swapnam, Ee Thanutha Veluppan Kalathu, Kannezhuthi Pottum Thottu, Uppukandam Brothers Back in Action, The Dolphins, and many others. From 1980 until the 1990s, he hosted a news program on Doordarshan and directed almost 200 documentary films.
Ravi Vallathol is married to Geethalakshmi and the couple has yet to have children. In 1988, they founded a charity organization named Thanal for mentally handicapped youngsters.
