Mohanlal Viswanathan, also known by his mononym Mohanlal, is an Indian actor, film producer, playback singer, television presenter, and film distributor who primarily works in Malayalam cinema but has made occasional appearances in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi films. During a 40-year career, Mohanlal has appeared in more than 340 movies. His contributions to the Malayalam film industry have been recognized by his contemporaries in the Indian film industry. In 2001, he was granted the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian award, for his services to cinema. He became the first actor in India to be granted the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army in 2009.
Mohanlal biography
Mohanlal made his cinematic debut at the age of 18 in Thiranottam in 1978, but due to censorship issues, the film was delayed until 1998. His first screen appearance was in Manjil Virinja Pookkal, where he played the antagonist. He quickly established himself as a villain and went on to play secondary lead parts over the next few years. After establishing himself as a bankable leading actor in the mid-1980s, he achieved stardom in 1986 after starring in several successful movies; Rajavinte Makan, which was released that year, heightened his profile. Mohanlal works primarily in Malayalam Cinema but has also performed in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada films. The Tamil political drama Iruvar (1997) is one of his most famous non-Malayalam films; the Hindi crime thriller Company (2002) is another. Janatha Garage (2016), a Telugu film.

Mohanlal has won five National Film Awards, including two Best Actors, a Special Jury Mention, and a Special Jury Award for acting (as producer), as well as an award for Best Feature Film (as producer) from the Kerala State Film Awards and several other honors.
