Lil Rel Howery, Jr. (born December 17, 1979) is an American actor and comic. Howery is recognized for his role as Robert Carmichael on NBC’s The Carmichael Show (2015–2017), in which he played a fictionalized version of himself becoming increasingly frustrated at the limitations placed on him by his family. He also starred in the short-lived TV series Rel (2018–2019), which he also created and co-produced.

Milton Howery, Jr. was born in Chicago, the son of Nancy and Milton Howery. He went to Providence St. Mel School from fifth grade through ninth grade. He attended Crane High School and spent his first year there before transferring to Benjamin Banneker Academic High School. Howery wrote jokes and a script for a senior talent show at Crane High School, after which he decided to pursue comedy as a profession. He named himself after his older cousin, Darrel, and was nicknamed Lil Rel. He mentioned that he played high school basketball in order to remind people of his younger sibling Reel, giving him the nickname Lil Rel.

- At the Lion’s Den, Howery began performing stand-up comedy in Chicago’s East Side. In January 2007, he made his television debut on the reality show Last Comic Standing. In addition, he has been a participant in P. Diddy Presents The Bad Boys of Comedy on HBO (2001) and in the reality series “MTV Road Rules All-Stars” (2002). In 2009, he was one of the speakers at America’s National Night Out Against Crime in Chicago.
- In 2012, Howery starred in Fox’s revival of the 1990s sketch comedy series In Living Color with five other comics. The program ended in 2013. He went on to work as a writer, producer, and cast member of the truTV sketch comedy series Friends of the People after that.
