Lee Pace is an American actor who has played Thranduil the Elvenking in The Hobbit trilogy and Joe MacMillan in AMC’s period drama television series Halt and Catch Fire. He has also starred in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Ronan the Accuser, who he previously played in Guardians of the Galaxy and reprised in Captain Marvel.

As a youngster, he spent several years in Saudi Arabia, where his father worked in the oil industry; the family later relocated to Houston. He attended Klein High School in Spring, Texas, a Houston suburb, with actor Matt Bomer.
In 1997, he was accepted into Juilliard’s Drama Division group 30, which also included Anthony Mackie and Tracie Thoms. He was a child actor, appearing in numerous plays, including as Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, Richard II in the title role, and Julius Caesar as Cassius. He obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Juilliard.
After graduation, he appeared in a number of off-Broadway plays, including The Credeaux Canvas and The Fourth Sister. He has performed in a variety of ensemble roles, including the title role in Hamlet at both LORTEL and Gammage Arizona Theater Company. Also, he was nominated for a Lucille Lortel Award as Outstanding Actor for his portrayal of Small Tragedy’s protagonist. In 2006, Pace played the dual role of Chaunte and Tegan in Peter Morris’ Guardians at the Royal National Theatre, which earned him his second Lortel Award nomination as Outstanding Actor.
Pace became well-known for his performance as Calpernia Addams in Soldier’s Girl, a biographical film about real events, in which he played the main part.
In 2019, Apple revealed that Pace had been cast in its adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s Foundation, which aired in September 2021, as Brother Day, the Galactic Empire’s current Emperor.
