He was captivated by martial arts at a young age, influenced by kung fu films and Bruce Lee. He started out learning self-taught martial arts, mimicking routines from Lee as well as Jackie Chan. He stated that when he was a youngster, he was ridiculed and became a bully, but that after learning kung fu, he changed for the better. He also played soccer in addition to studying martial arts, which he won several competitions in.
After being told of the audition by his martial arts instructor, Bosch went to Dallas and auditioned for Power Rangers. In 1994, he was cast as the new Black Power Ranger in season two of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, taking over for Walter Emanuel Jones.
Bosch made his voice acting debut as Vash the Stampede, the main character of Trigun. He collaborated again with Koichi Sakamoto in 2006 on Broken Path, once again playing Vash the Stampede. In the same year, Bosch was chosen to play Ichigo Kurosaki in the popular shonen anime Bleach. In 2007, Bosch starred alongside Ray Park in a comic-book action film called Hellbenders. Among other things, Bosch has voiced Lelouch in Code Geass in 2008 and Izaya Orihara in Durarara in 2011. Johnny also voiced Yun Arikawa in the 2021 Netflix anime series, Kaiju, Godzilla Singular Point.
In 2019, Bosch took over as the new voice of Broly and Sabo for the Funimation dubs of Dragon Ball and One Piece, replacing Vic Mignogna owing to sexual harassment allegations.
