She was born on 16 October 1948 in Ammankudi, Madras State, India. She belongs to a Tamil Hindu Iyengar Brahmin family. She completed her school at Andhra Mahila Sabha Arts & Science College for Women in Chennai & Delhi Tamil Education Association Sr. Sec. School until 11th standard, where her favourite subject was History. She started her career in the cinema industry. In 1980 she got married to Dharmendra & at this time Dharmendra already has two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deo & two daughters Ajeita Deol & Vijeta Deol with his first wife. After marriage, she has two daughters Ahana Deol & Esha Deol with Dharmendra Sing Deol. In 2015 She become a grandmother when her younger daughter give birth first child & in 2017 she got the chance to become a grandmother when her elder sister give birth to a baby girl.
