Gururaj made his debut in 1994 with Beda Krishna Ranginata, in which he played his father Jaggesh. He wrote a script for his father’s film Makeup in 2002. In 2007, he acted in Tamashegagi alongside his uncle Komal.

From his performance in the 2009 film Gilli, he is known. He acted in Guru, directed by his father Jaggesh, in 2012. He acted in Sankranthi that year. In 2015 he played the lead role in Paipoti. 2017 saw him play a prominent part in Leader, which starred Shiva Rajkumar.

In 2007, he completed his tamashegagi training with his uncle Komal.

K. Balachander began his career as a lead actor in the Tamil language, 7G Rainbow Colony (2009), which was remade as Gilli 2: The Killer Bee.
