Bhanupriya was born in Mangabhanu, Assam, on 15 January 1967. Bhanupriya is an Indian actress, Kuchipudi dancer, and voice artist who has appeared in 155 feature films throughout her career. She has won three state Nandi Awards, two Tamil Nadu State Film Awards, two Filmfare Awards South, and two Cinema Express Awards.
Bhanupriya was born on January 15, 1967, in Rangampeta, a Telugu-speaking region near Rajahmundry, Andhra Pradesh, to Pandu Babu and Ragamali. She was nicknamed Mangabhanu. Her family later relocated to Chennai, Tamil Nadu. She has an older brother named Gopikrishana and a younger sister known as Shantipriya who has been active in the film business since the 90s.

She was a top actress in India for more than ten years, from 1983 to 1995. She made her debut on the Tamil film Mella Pesungal in 1983 and subsequently appeared in Sitaara (1984), which won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Telugu that year. She subsequently played an ornithologist in Anveshana (1985). With Dosti Dushmani, she made her Hindi film debut in 1986.

In 1988, she played the role of a lady named Geethu in Swarnakamalam, which was shown at the Indian Panorama Section of the 1988 International Film Festival of India and the Ann Arbor Film Festival. For her work in Aararo Aariraro, Bhanupriya won the Indian Express Award for Best Actress, the Nandi Award for Best Actress, and the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu. Her Tamil Nadu State Film Awards Special Prizes were earned in 1989 and 1991 for her roles in Azhagan and Aararo AarroARO.

Bhanupriya married Adarsh Kaushal, a digital graphics engineer, at the Sri Venkateswara temple in Malibu, California on June 14, 1998. Abhinaya was born in 2002 as the couple’s daughter. Bhanupriya divorced Kaushal in 2005 and moved back to India where she resumed her acting profession. She currently resides in Chennai with her daughter. After suffering a cardiac arrest in 2018, Adarsh Kaushal died.
