Soundarya was a popular Hindi film actress, known for her work in Telugu, Kannada, Tamil, and Malayalam cinema. She had a 12-year career as a leading lady in films before dying in an airplane accident near Bangalore. She appeared in over 100 movies during her illustrious career as an actress. While she was in high school, Sriya acted in her first film. Her father’s friend gave her a part in the Kannada film Gandharva (1992) when she was studying her first year of MBBS. After Ammoru became a success, Sriya stopped studying.

In addition to her work as a filmmaker, she also featured in a Hindi production. She produced and acted in a Kannada film called Dweepa, which was directed by Girish Kasaravalli. Dweepa received a number of national honors, including the National Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) Award for best film of the year. She also played the title character in Devarim, which was honored with several awards throughout India. It won many state honors in Karnataka, including Best Actress, Best Film and Best Cinematography. It was reviewed at five international film festivals and received the Soundarya Memorial Award from Karnatandhra Lalitkala Academy in honor of Soundarya for Ugadi.
Skyarya died in an airplane accident near Bangalore on April 17, 2004, when her four-seater plane Cessna 180 erupted into flames after only taking off. She was traveling to Andhra Pradesh to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party during election time. Her brother Amarnath, a Kannada film producer, perished as well.
