Yves Jacques has worked with French Canadian director Denys Arcand on 5 films including The Decline of the American Empire, Jesus of Montreal and The Barbarian Invasions, along with French director Claude Miller with whom he worked on 7 films. His renown grew steadily through film and theatre in France and in Quebec. On stage, he has been touring worldwide for almost ten years with two Robert Lepage’s plays, The Far Side of the Moon and The Andersen Project. Other directors with whom Yves had the privilege to work include Xavier Dolan, Jean-Paul Rappenneau, Olivier Dahan as well as Martin Scorsese. Yves Jacques was appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, in February 2001, and he is an Officer of the Order of Canada since 2009 for his achievements as an actor in theater, television and film, in Canada and abroad.
Yves Jacques Biography
Jacques was born in Quebec City in 1956. He studied theatre at the Cégep de Saint-Hyacinthe, and began acting on stage in both Quebec City and Montreal. He became more widely known to film and television audiences beginning in 1981 as a sketch performer in Télévision de Radio-Canada’s annual Bye Bye New Year’s Eve variety special, and soon began appearing more widely in film and television roles.To international audiences, he is best known as Claude, the gay academic in Denys Arcand’s The Decline of the American Empire and The Barbarian Invasions. On stage, he is noted for originating the role of Lydie-Anne in the premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard’s play Lilies.
