Shyam, also known as Samuel Joseph, is a Malayalam music composer from Tamil Nadu, India. Shyam had a successful career as a film composer in the Malayalam cinema industry from the mid-1970s to the late 1980s, scoring almost 200 films. Shyam had worked with a wide range of directors, scoring for numerous hits by Jayan and the early films of Mammootty and Mohanlal.

He has worked with a number of music directors, including- Salil Chowdhury, Rajan Nagendra, Satyam, S. Rajeswara Rao, Pendyala Nageswara Rao, AM Raja, TG Lingappa etc for several years before venturing as an independent music director. He has performed with renowned composers such as C. Ramachandra, V Dakshinamoorthi, Naushad, Madan Mohan, G. Devarajan, Bombay Ravi, RD Burman etc.
He received additional training in western violin before studying carnatic classical violin under the baton of renowned classic violinist Lalgudi Jayaraman.
He debuted in Malayalam cinema as an independent composer with the 1974 film Manyasree Viswamithran, directed by actor Madhu. All of the music from the movie, including Kettille Kottayathoru, became huge hits.
