Diane Ladd is an award-winning American actor, film director, producer, and author. In her expansive acting career of over 6 decades, Diane has appeared in over 200 films and TV shows, earning critical acclaim and more than 57 international awards, such as the ‘BAFTA,’ the ‘Golden Globe,’ and the ‘Independent Spirit Award.’ She earned ‘Academy Award’ and ‘Golden Globe’ nominations for her brilliant performances in supporting roles in the films ‘Wild at Heart,’ ‘Rambling Rose,’ and ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.’ ‘Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore’ and the TV series ‘Alice’ won her a ‘BAFTA Award’ and a ‘Golden Globe Award,’ respectively. Diane Ladd was born Rose Diane Ladner, on November 29, 1935, in Meridian, Mississippi, US. She was the only child of Preston Paul Ladner and Mary Bernadette. Her mother was a housewife and actor, while her father was a veterinarian and a traveling salesman who developed and sold his own poultry remedies across the South. American playwright Tennessee Williams was her cousin. She is also related to 19th century American musician, poet, and author Sidney Lanier. Diane’s mother raised her according to the Roman Catholic faith. She attended high school in Mississippi, where she sang in the choir and acted in plays.

Career: Diane began her career in show business with bit roles in series such as ‘Decoy’ (1957) and ‘Naked City’ (1958–1959) and uncredited roles in films such as ‘Murder, Inc.’ (1960). Her first credited film role was that of ‘Gaysh’ in the hit 1966 American outlaw biker film ‘The Wild Angels.’ She made her ‘Broadway’ debut with the American play ‘Carry Me Back to Morningside Heights’ in 1968. She garnered a ‘Drama Desk Award’ nomination for her performance in the play ‘A Texas Trilogy: Lu Ann Hampton Laverty Oberlander’ (1976).
Moving on with other TV and film roles, Diane landed up with a role in the long-running ‘CBS’ soap opera ‘The Secret Storm’ in 1971, becoming the second actor to portray ‘Kitty Styles.’ She appeared in the supporting role of ‘Ida Sessions’ in 1974- released critically and commercially successful American neo-noir mystery film ‘Chinatown,’ directed by Roman Polanski.
