Anjali Prabhakaran (née Shah) is an Indian actress and model who appears in Tamil and Telugu movies. She began her career as a model, then was cast as a lead in two Telugu films before gaining attention in the Jiiva-starring Kattradhu Thamizh (2007). She received three Filmfare Awards for Best Actress – Tamil in 2010 and 2011, both of which were for her roles in Angaadi Theru and Engaeyum Eppothum.

Anjali was born on June 16, 1986, in Razole, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, to a Telugu-speaking family. She has two brothers and a sister. She finished her schooling in Razole and subsequently moved to Chennai to study mathematics for a degree.
After her schooling, she began acting in short films, which eventually led to her entry into the film business. Her father said that he and his family had always wanted to be actors and that they “realized their goals” through Anjali’s success.
Anjali was offered the opportunity to appear in director Kalanjiyam’s Sathamintri Muthamidu in 2002, but it was never produced. However, the filmmaker did begin two additional projects with Anjali: Valiba Desam and En Kanavu Thaanadi. During one of her modeling jobs, she was discovered by director Siva Nageswara Rao, who cast her in his Tamil thriller film Photo (2006)
