Karen Gillan is a Scottish actress and director. Karen’s career was boosted by her performance as Amy Pond, the Eleventh Doctor’s primary companion in the science fiction series Doctor Who (2010–2013), for which she received numerous accolades and nominations. She had her first role in a thriller, Outcast (2010), as Ally. She also did substantial roles in the romantic comedy Not Another Happy Ending (2013) and the action drama The Last Stand (2013).

She studied for an HNC Acting and Performance qualification at Telford College in Edinburgh when she was 16. At the age of 18, she moved to London to pursue her acting career at Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. She was scouted for a modeling agency while dining with her family. She worked as a model prior to her acting career, debuting at London Fashion Week in 2007.
Gillan’s early television career consisted of guest appearances in several TV shows, including an episode of ITV crime drama Rebus, which she had to quit her education for.
