In his next project as a producer, Varun was once asked to consider reprising his role as an actor. The pair decided to collaborate on Anthony’s thriller Oru Naal Iravil (2015), where he gained 15 pounds to play the part of a thirty-year-old automobile driver. Anumol, Sathyaraj, and Yugi Sethu were also in the cast.
The film was not a success commercially, but it received excellent reviews from critics, with Sify.com calling Varun’s role “masterful” and Behindwoods.com remarking that “Varun does a decent job as the assistant of Sathyaraj”.
Varun was suggested to appear in the fantasy thriller Bogan, alongside Jayam Ravi and Arvind Swamy, as a police officer by Prabhu Deva. Varun will play a leading role in Sometimes as a drug addict and the second lead actor in Vanamagan with Vikram Prabhu and A. L. Vijay’s Vanamagan with Jayam Ravi and Sayyeshaa as well.Varun made his debut in the 2019 Tamil comedy drama film Puppy, co-starring Samyuktha Hegde. Varun will star as a character with obsessive compulsive disorder in Prabhu Deva’s production project Vinodhan, co-starring Vedhika and Salony Luthra.
