Odduvil Unnikrishnan was born in Wadakkancherry, Kingdom of Cochin, British India on February 13th, 1944. He was a film actor, singer, music director, and composer who is best recognized in Malayalam Cinema. Unnikrishnan was wed to Padmajam in 1975. The family of Unnikrishnan was blessed with two daughters, Shalini and Padmini.

Unnikrishnan started his career as a vocal music student at Kalamandalam Vasudeva Panikker. He had studied vocal music for many years before becoming interested in musical improvisation. Unnikrishnan’s early interests were in music and rhythm instruments, such as tabla and mridangam, and he trained there. This immaculately dressed young man began studying music from the age of five, initially from Kalamandalam Vasudeva Paniker. He later attended prominent Kerala Kalavedi and K.P.A.C. Theaters, where he performed as a tablist in his first role Thereafter, he worked at various stages in various plays, which is how he got an interest in acting.

Career

Unnikrishnan began his career in film in the late 1970s, with a part in the Darshanam. His early notable parts were as a mahout in Guruvayur Kesavan and as Subbaiyer in Sarapanjaram, both of which he performed under noted directors Hariharan, Thoppil Bhasi, and Sathyan Anthikkad. He has acted in over 400 movies during his illustrious career. His most well-known parts include those in Kathapurushan, Nizhalkuthu, Yodha, Thooval Kottaram, Oru Cheru Punchiri, Ponmuttayidunna Thattan, and Achuvinte Amma.

Oduvil Unnikrishnan was engaged in the construction business. He was suffering from chronic kidney failure and required dialysis treatment at numerous hospitals in Thrissur and Malapuram. Later, he was admitted to a private hospital in Kozhikode, where he died as a result of renal failure on May 27th, 2006.
