Jagathy Sreekumar is a well-known Indian film actor best known for his comedic performances. His real name is Sreekumar Achary, better known by his screen name Jagathy. Sreekumar was born in 1951 in Jagathy, Trivandrum. His father was a drama artist who worked for All India Radio. He went to school in Trivandrum and graduated from Mar Ivanious College there. He initially started out as a medical salesperson because of his great interest in the cinema, but he made the transition to acting after deciding to pursue a career in films.

He studied at the College of Dramatic Arts and became a theater actor during his school and university days. He began his cinematic career with Chattambi Kalyani, directed by J Sasikumar in 1975. Later, he took minor parts before becoming well-known for his comedic performances. In 1976, after Jagathy married Mallika Sukumaran, he was still at the beginning of his profession. Mallika was an established actress in her own right. Jagathy’s career as an actor began in 1960 when he was seven years old. They subsequently split up, and Jagathy continued his acting career. Jagathy frequently mentions his father in interviews, recalling him as a harsh individual. After having married Kala for the second time in 1979, Jagathy had a daughter named Sreelakshmi. The connection broke down with divorce two years later. In 1984, after remarrying Shobha, Jagathy has one son and daughter.

He launched his film career with Malayalam films Kalyanaunnikal and Annakutty Kodambakkam Vilikunu, both of which he directed. Jagathy Kalpana was a success in the 1990s, with almost all projects they were involved in being huge successes. In 1990, he wrote the screenplay for champion Thomas’s movie. Aside from that, Jagathy also attempted his luck as a playback singer and recorded nearly five songs in Malayalam.

Jagathy has received several honors for his work, and he is recognized in the Guinness Book of World Records as the actor who has appeared in over 1500 movies. He was given the ward award in 2005 and the Bahadoor Award in 2003, among other honors. For his unpleasant role in Urumi, he was presented with The Kochi Times Film Award by The Kochi Times newspaper.
